Title: Listening to the QCD Phase Transition: Gravitational Waves from Newborn Neutron Stars
Abstract:
There is tentative evidence that the cores of the most massive neutron stars consist of quark matter. I will discuss that the formation of such a quark-matter core during a galactic supernova could be accompanied by gravitational wave emission in the MHz band, sourced by the QCD phase transition. These signals constitute a new target for high-frequency gravitational wave detectors, suggesting they may offer a unique probe of QCD in an otherwise inaccessible regime.
