Title: Vortex formation depletes dark photon dark matter
Speaker: Junwu Huang (Perimeter Inst. Theor. Phys.)
Abstract: I will discuss the formation and evolution of vortices in U(1) dark photon dark matter and dark photon clouds that arise through black hole superradiance. I will show analytical and numerical evidences of how the production of both longitudinal mode and transverse mode dark photon dark matter can lead to the formation of vortices (cosmic strings). After vortex formation, the energy stored in the dark photon dark matter will be transformed into a large number of vortex strings, eradicating the coherent dark photon dark matter field. Similar dynamic s also occur in dark photon superradiance clouds around spinning black holes. I will also discuss the phenomenologica l consequences for dark photon dark matter, gravitational wave as well as lab searches for topological defects.
