Title: Exploring quantum tunneling in the real-time path integral with the Lefschetz thimble method
Speaker: Atis Yosprakob (Niigata University)
Abstract: Quantum tunneling can be described in the imaginary-time path integral using instantons. The situation in the real-time formalism remains elusive due to the oscillatory nature of the path integral. Here, we propose that quantum tunneling can be characterized in general by the contribution of complex saddle points. We demonstrate this explicitly by a Monte Carlo simulation based on the generalized Lefschetz thimble method of a simple quantum mechanical system. In this simulation, the complex trajectories representing the quantum tunneling are obtained. In principle, the contribution of complex saddles can be probed experimentally by the weak measurement.
